Once again, I can't tell you why one shot works and another doesn't at night???? I just keep moving the settings on my camera and I get something different every time. What I have discovered is that I can't get a clear picture unless I'm on auto setting with a flash, even though the subject may be a long distance away. I guess I'd have to use a tripod to get a good picture without the flash. Still looking for help. I liked the way the 2nd one showed the elephant clearly and the rest was blurry????? Also, the picture of my friend's daughter and her friend with my granddaughter.....interesting to me how the moving apes in the background came out clear. Go figure. Makes no sense to me.

I kind of do what you do, Hon -- try different modes/settings, then look at the properties of the ones that turned out well and try to duplicate it the next time. This is why I take most of my night shots using "landscape mode."
I haven't taken the time to read through my camera's manual yet, but maybe, once I learn more about the individual settings, I can be of more help to you.
What kind of camera do you have again? Is it a digital SLR or a point & shoot?
Before I forget, these photos are great :D! I like the train one the best, but they are all lovely for different reasons!

yeah you are definetly going to have to use a tripod!!! You are going to have to set your shutter speed really slow... you shouldnt need a flash at all!! You have some good ones so far though, even though the lights that are blurry can be cool too you just haave to work with your camera!!
you actually have some wonderful shots here and I know what you mean you'll just really have to experiment but the tripod will help!! hang in there!!
